Like everything is life you have to deal with the elements of survival. These little principals can apply to any profession. Unfortunately, usually it all boils down to “who you know and who knows you”. Everybody is looking out for somebody. In the end, it’s just a big networking, building valuable relationships, getting on the side that make the difference. I believe that people prefer to work with drama-less people that they like.
